SECONDARY             ELEMENTARY VISUAL ARTS

Education is forever changing and adapting therefore as an educator I like to challenge and extend myself by updating my teaching processes to be relevant and diverse. Attending frequent professional development opportunities around curriculum, STEM and IT support and extend my teaching skill sets based on the ever changing student environment and needs.

Teaching for over 9 years, the international school community is a new adventure for me. For the last 2 years, I have been teaching Elementary Art at an international non-for profit school in China and I have enjoyed every minute of it, especially learning about different cultures and traditions in my host country.

My transition into elementary school has given me a fresh new insight into ‘explicit’ teaching and I like working through the process and flexibility of the lessons and programs. Elementary students are fun and vibrant, always excited about the lesson and new learning experiences!

In connection to this, I discovered that project based learning can play an integral role in creating open-minded learners and after attending an EARCOS workshop in Bangkok earlier this year I was inspired to bring TAB (choice) based workshops to my studio. During these workshops my elementary students have been exposed to a vast variety of materials, techniques and processes that extend their art making.
